Tiny Pond is a beautiful mid-elevation, medium-sized pond tucked in the central Green Mountains, accessible only by a somewhat challenging trail. Its shallow depth and its position high up in a notch means that it freezes relatively early and tends to be less snow covered than the surroundings. The difficult access means you won’t see anyone there. The pond is half privately owned and half owned by the state, as part of the Tiny Pond Wildlife Management Area.

Tiny Pond is small, but its name comes from the old family name of “Tinney”, and is not a reference to its size.

Launch + Parking

There is only one public way to access Tiny Pond: via the trail up from route 100. The trailhead is a small pull-off, technically on private land, but the state has a right of way that allows parking and travel across it onto the adjoining state land. The trail is a series of old logging roads, in fairly rough shape. It’s only about 1.4 miles / 2.25 km long, but with 875 ft / 265 m of rugged vertical.
