Kinsman Pond is accessible only by a steep, long, rugged hike in. You have two options, both of which are challenging: hiking in from the Lafayette Place Campground parking lot via the Lonesome Lake and Fishin’ Jimmy trails, which takes you past Lonesome Lake; or hiking in from the Basin (West) parking lot along the Kinsman Pond trail, passing by the Basin Cascades.
Going via Lonesome Lake is about 3.3 miles / 5.3 km each way, with about 2,500 ft / 755 m of vertical. Going via the Kinsman Pond trail is about 3.6 miles / 5.38 km km each way, with about 2,250 ft / 690 m of vertical. Both are hard all year round, and in the ice season they are icy and slippery.
